opportunity to experience the people and rich culture of China.
Our volunteers teach English in community schools and at a local
community service center. Duties vary slightly with each placement,
but the emphasis will be placed on conversational English with students
at the primary and secondary levels. |

"Mobile Elephant Clinic Project"

years ago there were at least 100,000 elephants in Thailand,
now sadly that number has dropped to about 5,000 (2,000
in the wild and 3,000 in captivity) and the population is
still estimated to be falling at over 3% a year.
Something must be done to stop this decline or there will
be very few elephants left in the future.

Bootcamp

The
facility trains soldiers at their camp in Kanchanburi province
(2 Hoursdriving from Bangkok). This camp trains soldiers,
male and female students from all over Thailand via activities
such as an obstacle course, tower jump and shooting range.
This training camp will be open to international tourists
as an Adventure Boot Camp.

Costa Rican Language Academy (C.R.L.A.). Costa Rican owned and
operated language school offers first-rate Spanish instruction in a warm

Learn Spanish While Volunteering. Assist with the training of
Costa Rican public school teachers in ESL and computers. Assist local
health clinic, social service agencies, and environmental projects.
Enjoy learning Spanish in the morning, volunteer work in the afternoon/evening.

with middle class homestay families (1 student or couple per family).

Living Among the Giant Grasses. Work with and learn about tropical
bamboos, one of the world's fastest growing renewable resources while
you experience rural Costa Rican life in a wild river setting. This
program offers a general orientation on the subject of bamboo, including
opportunities to work in a tropical garden, participate in the development
of a small bamboo plantation, and assist in the work of a bamboo furniture
maker and sculptor.

Ecuador
Ecotrackers Network. Ecotrackers volunteers work in small towns
and villages in various regions of Ecuador to help develop ecotourism,
work in clinics, teach English, plant trees, work with kids, or use whatever
skills they are most able to provide. Volunteer positions are customized
to the needs of the volunteers and the communities. Volunteers must enroll
in Spanish classes (at the institute in Quito) if they are not at an intermediate
level.
Dates: Ongoing. Volunteers commit 2 or more weeks
at a time. Costs: $55 registration fee in Quito, $7 a day to
host families in communities for room and board. If studying Spanish,
students must pay for the cost of classes, and the registration fee
will be waived. Volunteers are responsible for their own transportation,

Melida Anaya Montes Language School. Teach small-size English classes,

Global Service Corps. Global Service Corps (GSC), a project of
Earth Island Institute, creates opportunities for adult participants
to live in Costa Rica, Tanzania, and Thailand to volunteer on projects
in health, education and environment emphasizing grass-roots collaboration
on the local level, mutual transfer of skills, and cross-cultural understanding.
Our goals are to provide developing communities with the means to function
more sustainably and to widen the perspectives of participants as responsible

Medical Volunteer Program. CMMB recruits licensed healthcare
volunteers from the U.S. and Canada, for service around the world. CMMB
offers long- and short-term placements in Africa, Asia, Latin America,
the Caribbean, and Near East. Our greatest need is for primary care
physicians and general surgeons.
Dates: Year round. Costs: All volunteers
receive room and board, and emergency evacuation insurance. CMMB offers

Natural History and Research Trips. Since 1969, specialists in
natural history expeditions to prime wildlife habitats. Noninvasive/noncaptive
wildlife field research and habitat restoration projects: dolphins,
